QUAVADIS is a pan-european initiative to improve the Quality and Use Aspects of Vehicle Adaptations for DISabled.

Project objectives
Establishing the website for Car Adaptation Information for Europe is one of QUAVADIS methods to reach the project goals. The overall objectives of the project are:

to stimulate knowledge exchange in the field of physically disabled drivers and their need for car-adaptations.
to establish statistics on the use of codes and the disabled drivers population in Europe
to draw up criteria for safety and performance of car-adaptations that are suitable to compensate for the driver's disability according to the restrictive conditions (codes) on the driving licence.

Project results
The main results of the project are a description of the procedures for obtaining or renewing a driving licence for citizens with a (physical) disability in the different Member States of the European Community, and an extensive Code of Practice for car adaptations structured in line with the list of harmonised Community codes on the driving licence. All results of the QUAVADIS project are described in the Final Report and much is included on the European Car-Adaptation Website.

QUAVADIS is partly funded by the European Commission DG-TREN (Directorate-General for Energy and Transport).
The project activities took place in the period 2001-2003.

The Quavadis consortium consists of:

an independent consultant specialised in mobility of elderly and disabled persons: EDPC
driving licence authorities, specialised in driving by disabled persons: CBR, CARA
the reseach organisation of an European vehicle manufacturer: CRF
a fleet owner with very large fleet of adapted motor vehicles: Motability
an organisation for motor vehicle inspection, with experts specialised in adapted vehicles: TÜV
a research institute for the automotive industry: TNO
a driving assessment and advice centre: MAVIS
